Artistic hat with a wide brim is covered with pale yellow nylon and the flat crown is significantly wider at the top than it is at the bottom and tilts to the left. Black velvet complicated bow at the front. There is a strap designed to go under the back of the hair. DATE: 1940s.
Bandeau red feather and velvet hat
Bandeau red feather and velvet hat with a matching feather muff. Feathers have black accents. The hat is shallow, 7” depth across the top of the crown; with the feathers on right side extend beyond the hat to wrap around the frame the face. Netting covers feathers. The front underside is partially visible and covered with velvet, the lining is magenta silk taffeta and grosgrain ribbon. The muff has a 26” circumference, black silk taffeta lining and attached fabric loop for wrist. Label “Anabel Faden Millinery, Cincinnati.” DATE: 1950s and 60s.
Beehive feather torque hat
Beehive feather torque hat covered with small, stiffened royal blue feathers and touches of red, green and yellow feathers. Large overlapping light and wispy royal blue feathers circle the rim and frame the forehead. Interior wire rim is covered with blue velvet where it would touch the wearer’s head. The hat has a stiff silky taffeta like lining. DATE: Circa 1955.

Bes Ben Whimsy, body of hat is made of white stamped leather possibly alligator. The edges of all the leather are bordered with tiny white beads. There is a bow at center top and 4 bands extending downward like the longitude lines on a globe. There is another band across the bottom of the hat and where the vertical lines meet that band has 2 bows like the one at the top. A black net veil covers the hat and would cover pat of the face. A fixed to head with 2 black plastic combs. Called “Chicago’s Mad Hatter” Mr. Green-Field was famous for his whimsical and elegant hats for women, including celebrities such as Lucile Ball, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlene Dietrich. DATE: 1960s.

Bes Ben Whimsy, the body of the hat is made of green fabric with an oval cut out in the center and free form cut out designs on the sides. The entire body of the hat is bordered in round clear beads. The hat is further embellished with 6 hand painted ceramic flowers. There is a green net veil over the hat. Two side combs for attaching. Label “Bes Ben, Made in Chicago.” Called “Chicago’s Mad Hatter” Mr. Green-Field was famous for his whimsical and elegant hats for women, including celebrities such as Lucile Ball, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlene Dietrich. Cloche hat by Lily Dache
Cloche hat by Lily Dache. Cream, tan, magenta, purple and melon ribbons woven through pieces of plastic coated wire. Plastic beads are strung through the “wire.” There are self fabric streamers down the back. 2 black labels, “The French Room, Marshall Field & Co.” and “Lily Dache, Paris, New York, 78 East 56th Street, N.Y.” Lily Dache hats were highly desired by the wealthiest and most sophisticated women. Lilly Dache designed for Hollywood films and had many clients who were movie-stars. They included Marlene Dietrich, Caroline Lombard and Loretta Young. When Dache retired in 1968 Loretta Young bought her last thirty hats. DATE: 40s, 50s.

Pale green velvet band around the crown, a large magenta velvet rose sits to the side of the front and 2 large wide bows at the back where the two sides meet. Very wide 16” diameter. Modified coach man’s hat, black straw with a 1” rolled brim and crown that slants to the left. The entire hat except for crown and rim is covered with very bright pink uncut fringe with 2 poufs of the same fringe on the left side extending out from the top of the hat. DATE: 1940s.

Pillbox hat and matching scarf
Pillbox hat and matching scarf, blue silk satin with white dots. At the top of the crown is an elongated self fabric rectangle extending down past the bottom of the hat and wrapping around the face. It is stiffened and lined with buckrum, hat has blue velvet trim and a mesh lining. 6” diameter. Scarf 38” long and 6” wide at the ends, narrower in the middle. DATE: Later 1950s to early 1960s.

Red felt hat with black feathers is highly stylized.
Red felt hat with black feathers is highly stylized. The hat is built on a simple skull cap frame, body of hat has wing like protrusions of red velvet, and there are an abundance of black feathers coming off the front and framing the face. Feathers have a clear rhinestone on each of the tips; over the feathers at the side center is a decorative piece of black fabric in the shape of several leaves covered with black beads and sequins. The rim of the “cap” has a 1” band of tightly woven black cording. There is a black elastic strap that would wrap under the hair at the nape of the neck to hold the hat in place. From the center front it is 7-1/2” high and 14” from side to side. Label reads “Eric Fleming, Dallas - New York” and “Hats That Demand Attention.”

Sun Hat with carrying bag, “the new Miracle Sunhat opens with a Snap, Easy carrying, Canteen style, Shoulder strap bag.” Hat and bag in cotton fabric designed with sketches in an African motif in red, yellow, green and black. Turban toque style hat in silver and light blue. The base of the hat is formed of tightly woven silver mesh. The perimeter of the hat is decorated with 10 to 15 rows of horizontal knife pleats made of 1/4” light blue jersey. Sides are symmetrical. Hat is lined in the blue jersey.
