Wide brimmed black straw hat

Wide brimmed black straw hat covered with 2 layers of black scalloped lace and a deep red border. On one side and extending to the top of the hat are 3 large red carnations, bunches of tiny red buds. On the other side of the crown is a large black bird is at rest among the foliage, each wing extends out just above over the top of the hat w/a 9” expanse, feathers painted black and varnished; 7” high with an 11” diameter, 3” brim and 26” black netting stringers that tie into a bow under the chin. DATE: 1895 to 1905.
