Hat has a black crepe crown draped in loose folds. The bottom 3” of perimeter of the hat is wrapped in soft horizontal folds with 2 large stylized feathers made of crepe attached at the front side and a silver and rhinestone pin. When worn the underside of the lining along the rim can be seen. It is covered with crepe, the crown is lined with black silk taffeta. The hat is 9” height, 10” diameter and would have sat high on the head. It is likely a mourning hat,“crape anglaise” spelled with an “a” to indicate mourning crape, material specifically used by widows. DATE: Circa 1914, Edwardian.
