The 10 Commandments for WIVES, all 10 cards imply anti-suffrage in their negative representation of women by men. There is a commandment on each card and a drawing with a man and woman acting it out such as #5, “Thou Shalt Never Open Thy Mouth Even IF He Calls You an Old Hag,” with a picture of the stern husband pointing at her as she looks down wiping away her tears.

“Avon Demonstration Lipsticks, Not to be sold,” 30 colors (1 missing), includes 14 3” x 3-1/4” cards, front says “Please accept this miniature Avon Lipstick with the compliments of your Avon Representative.” There is a small hold to insert sample. The back lists lipstick and rough shades and suggests nail polish colors.

Bandeau red feather and velvet hat with a matching feather muff. Feathers have black accents. The hat is shallow, 7” depth across the top of the crown; with the feathers on right side extend beyond the hat to wrap around the frame the face. Netting covers feathers. The front underside is partially visible and covered with velvet, the lining is magenta silk taffeta and grosgrain ribbon. The muff has a 26” circumference, black silk taffeta lining and attached fabric loop for wrist. Label “Anabel Faden Millinery, Cincinnati.” DATE: 1950s and 60s.

Bavaria Porcelain Perfume Bottle
Art deco geometric figural flapper in shades of blue, the stopper a white porcelain woman’s head, hair black flapper style with red lips and earrings. The head is attached to the cork which holds the glass dauber. Bottom marked “Bavaria.” The collector has seen the same bottle being sold as part of a three piece set which included a man and child. 6” from top of head stopper to the bottom of the bottle.

Alumesh is metal enameled aluminum beads that interlock into each other, also referred to as beadlite enamel, for its raised center resembling a bead. Inside pocket with labels read, “Alumesh Bags, Made in U.S.A. Pat. 78,124.” Patent was granted March 26, 1929 by U.S. Patents and Trademarks online. DATE: 1930s.

Medium size beads in a modernistic design with both geometric shapes and swirls in bright pink, yellowish green and aqua with black outlining. It has a fabric handle covered with the pink and aqua beads. Little remains of the original black linen lining. 6-1/2” across the center and 6-1/4” long.

Beaded bag of ecru crocheting and cobalt blue beads. The vertical striped design has beads in rows that graduate in size from a single bead to a row of 8 to 10 beads at the bottom. As the beads widens so does the shape of the bag. Very ornate oxidized metal frame in a floral motif embellished with two blue and a larger green stone. Bag has a ball and socket closure with a white and blue enameled flower around the socket. There is a metal chain.The dusty rose frayed silk lining has a ribbon of tiny pink flowers along the top edges and looks original. Bag 7” wide at the bottom and 7” long from the top of frame down.

The ornate oxidized metal frame is embellished with small blue and green stones, two red squares and a snap closure with a large green dome shape celluloid “stone.” There is a metal chain. Beaded bag, gray glass beads are the background for a bird of paradise peacock with a sweeping tail in vivid green, goldenrod yellow, deep blue, red and gold. The colors are repeated in the trim. The bag has van amber bakelite frame, kiss closure and chain. The lining is cream chamois leather. It is 8” long from top of frame to bottom plus a 2” looped fringe of the gray glass beads and touches of the green and red. Bag 6-3/4” x 7-1/2” from the bottom of the frame to the 2-1/2” looped fringe.

Magid Co., and became Magid Handbags around 1938. DATE: Difficult to say, probably 1950s or 60s.

Beehive feather torque hat covered with small, stiffened royal blue feathers and touches of red, green and yellow feathers. Large overlapping light and wispy royal blue feathers circle the rim and frame the forehead. Interior wire rim is covered with blue velvet where it would touch the wearer’s head. The hat has a stiff silky taffeta like lining. DATE: Circa 1955.

Belt or body, meant to be worn over a skirt or blouse. It is silk taffeta in pale pink and white stripes w/pink roses, green leaves and touches of purple around the top and bottom of the corset; decorative trim along the top and bottom edge; trim also used as shoulder straps, consists of a row of black and pink cording in curlicue design, a row of ecru ribbon w/pink roses and 1” of silk ecru thread in thick bunches; along sides of the opening and around the back and sides to give it a tightly styled bodice w/a fan-pleat in the front (all lines coming together at the low waist point, creating a “V” shape.) Hand sewn eyelets without strings. Exceptional piece. DATE: 1860s.

Bes Ben Whimsy, body of hat is made of white stamped leather possibly alligator. The edges of all the leather are bordered with tiny white beads. There is a bow at center top and 4 bands extending downward like the longitude lines on a globe. There is another band across the bottom of the hat and where the vertical lines meet that band has 2 bows like the one at the top. A black net veil covers the hat and would cover pat of the face. A fixed to head with 2 black plastic combs. Called “Chicago’s Mad Hatter” Mr. Green-Field was famous for his whimsical and elegant hats for women, including celebrities such as Lucile Ball, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlene Dietrich. DATE: 1960s.

Black acetate two piece suit. The skirt is very full, box pleated w/attached crinoline made of black acetate, white tulle and grosgrain ribbon trim in both black and mint green, w/a side metal zipper and two covered buttons at waist. Jacket is short w/short batwing sleeves which have a decorative cut at upper arm, fastens w/a large 1-1/4” black plastic button, jacket fastens center front w/3 of the same buttons. DATE: Circa 1957.

Black Bonnet, with slightly raised crown, covered with a spiral of stiffened netting. Front center of bonnet extends out in triangular shape and is embellished with layers of black velvet, wire bows and a small round flower of tiny ebony ovals in the center. Circumference of the bonnet is covered with small daisy flowers made of millinery’s wire. At the back is a black velvet bow and 3 large caltrops that rise over the crown (plants w/spiny heads or fruit like spikes), velvet stringers tie under the chin. Black silk lining. DATE: 1870s.
